WHO ARE WE?

CWGIS- Caribbean Women and Girls in STEM
is a membership  platform for Caribbean women and girls. CWGIS helps redefine the existing societal gender norms and stereotypes that impact girls’ educational opportunities and academic performance.


CWGIS members exert a powerful influence that invokes a shift towards minimizing gender segregation between fields and encouraging girls to pursue disciplines that have not been traditionally considered “feminine”.

CWGIS membership networking community platform has a focus to:

  • Increase equity, bridge the gap and create new opportunities for Caribbean women to explore careers in Science Technology Engineering Accounting and Mathematics.
  • Provide girls at different stages in their development access to mentorship.
  • Help  black female Caribbean High School and college aged students to have exposure to professional women working in Science Technology Engineering Accounting and Mathematics.
  • On preparing female students for the job market of the future. With a large network of Black Caribbean Women across the globe, CWGIS Mentorship Program is the anchor that creates opportunities for black Caribbean adolescent girls to understand the importance of representation and encourages more girls to obtain academic credentials in STEAM.  
  • Fosters a community for black female Caribbean professionals to continue to increase their capacity to adapt to ongoing transformations and technology, while maintaining high-quality employment in STEAM related industries.

CWGIS members are women who:

  • Passionate about women’s rights and actively support any charitable cause focused on women’s rights
  • Prioritizes donating time and energy to causes that impact the greater good of society and improve  public services for women especially those from undeserved communities.
  • Invest in organizations and experiences that support women especially black Caribbean women.

CWGIS is the right platform for:

  • Caribbean Women located anywhere in the world who are in Science Technology Engineering Accounting and Mathematics  related Careers.
  • High School female students 11-16 years of age.
  • Our High School CWGIS members are Mentees. They are Black Caribbean female students who attend High School in the Caribbean. 
  • These female High School students are between the
    ages of 11-17 years old. 
  • They are also Black Caribbean female rising seniors, master’s and or PhD students that are pursuing academics in Science Technology Engineering Accounting and Mathematics degree programs at accredited Universities around the world.

CARIBBEAN WOMEN AND GIRLS IN STEM

CWGIS- Caribbean Women and Girls in STEM primary goals are to: 

  • Empower Caribbean women to have access to education, develop skills, gain professional experience, and pursue careers in STEAM 
  • To have black Caribbean women lead in developing ground-breaking scientific research, healthcare innovations, and technologies like Artificial Intelligence  

To increase the number of black Caribbean females with skills and careers in STEAM  

CWGIS has solutions to designed for: 

  • Professionals’ women that identify as Caribbean located anywhere in the world with existing Careers in STEAM 
  • Female Caribbean Students attending High Schools students between the ages of 11- 16 attending High Schools in the Caribbean.  
  • Female Caribbean College Students attending Colleges and our Universities around the world pursuing academics in Science Technology Engineering Accounting and Mathematics. 
  • Academic Institutions (Universities) 
  • Specifically, Members from Caribbean Student Associations 
  • Companies looking to invest in building out representation programs focused on increasing DEI Programs, and helping Black Employee Interests Groups 

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

About the Founder 

Kayran Abasali is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, and she migrated to the United States. She is a first-generation college graduate with experience working in Fashion, Technology and Government. 

Inspired member of the Trinidadian diaspora Kayran Abasali, with over 13 years in community development, Kayran created a membership networking community for young girls and women to have access to academic opportunities and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Accounting and Mathematics (STEAM) 

WHY NOW ?

CWGIS focuses specifically on empowering women, girls and female high school students who are from the Caribbean to create a pipeline of talent for Science Technology Engineering Accounting and Mathematics related careers.

    professionals from the Caribbean.
  • CWGIS understands that Caribbean women and girls need more access to careers in STEAM. Through our membership networking platform we want to prepare students and professionals for the competitive job market of the Future.
  • CWGIS  has solutions to bridge the gender gap in STEAM, redefine societal gender norms and stereotypes.
  • CWGIS is committed to creating real social impact for Caribbean girl’s  by providing access to opportunities that can increase the adoption and acceleration of Caribbean girls pursuing education and careers in STEAM.

MISSION

CWGIS- Caribbean Women and Girls in STEAM,  is a membership networking community. The membership networking  community
has three primary focus areas:

  • Provide mentorship, and sponsorship for black female High School Students attending schools in the caribbean in STEAM.
  • Create opportunities for  Black Caribbean female students looking to or who are already pursuing academics and careers  in STEAM.
  • Provide a network, and community for caribbean women in any stage of their professional careers.

CWGIS- Caribbean Women and Girls in STEM primary goals are to:

  • Create a tribe of Caribbean black women with required skills in STEAM that makes the region competitive.
  • To bring together members who are passionate about being part of a like- minded community, who share a common goal of
    providing opportunities for future black caribbean female leaders. 
  • Empower Caribbean women to have access to education, develop skills,gain professional experience, and pursue careers in STEAM.
  • To have black Caribbean women lead in developing ground-breaking scientific research, healthcare innovations, and technologies 
    like Artificial Intelligence. 
  • To increase the number of  black Caribbean females with skills and careers in STEAM.
